This post is inspired from my friend, Mandy. I am blessed with having the most amazing group of girlfriends and Mandy is one of them. We’ve known each other since we were kids. We all went to high school and college together, been in each other’s weddings, been there for the birth of babies; basically at every monumental event in my life “the girls” were there.
Earlier this year (pre COVID), we all celebrated our 40th birthdays by going to San Francisco and Napa Valley. Here we are:

Back to Mandy. She asked me about bamboo shades. She needed some for her home but didn’t want to spend a lot of money because she doesn’t know how long they will be in their current home.
I love bamboo shades, I think they are the perfect way to give a room warmth and texture! I’ve put THESE same bamboo shades in 3 of my homes. I’m a firm believer of sticking with what you know and like ;). The wood color is great and goes with just about any color scheme. Be sure to catch them on sale, I’ve been able to get them 50% off with an additional 30% off!
One of the 5 tips I give in my FREE Simple Home Staging Guide is to have simple, unfussy window treatments. Bamboo shades on their own or paired with simple panel curtains work well for your home if you are staging it to sell or if you are decorating your home and plan on staying in your home.
My favorite affordable window treatments: Bamboo shades on their own
Here are the shades from our previous home in the sunroom that we used for our dining room:

I have also found some from Home Depot. Just remember, these are light filtering so they will not provide privacy. If you need privacy, you will need to have some kind of liner. In one of my homes, I installed cheap roller shades behind the bamboo shade to pull down and give privacy when needed.
Bamboo shades layered with curtains
I love layering bamboo shades with curtains. You can’t ever go wrong with placing simple, white curtains over bamboo shades. This is from The Lettered Cottage. It’s a classic look!

Holly Mathis does this in a lot of her designs, love her style!

Whether you’re dressing windows with shades only or layering them with curtains, these affordable window treatments are sure to add warmth and texture to any room!
